I was a teacher for 14 years before I became a lawyer. I have spent my entire career working with people, and the problem solving skills I taught my students are the same skills many of my clients need most today.

• Juvenile law: I represent young people in juvenile delinquency (juvenile criminal defense) cases and in civil cases where they are the plaintiff. I also work with a variety of clients in juvenile dependency cases, which relate to juveniles who are in need of adult care.
  
  
• Education law: I advocate on behalf of students, parents and teachers in education law cases, including special education cases, Title 9 gender equity cases, constitutional issues, cases related to the No Child Left Behind Act and cases involving alleged assaults on teachers.
  
  
• Domestic and family law: I handle divorce and a wide variety of other legal issues pertaining to families. These include child custody and visitation, child support, alimony, paternity, grandparent visitation and adoption, as well as protective orders in cases of domestic violence and representation in child abuse or neglect hearings.
  
  
• Family law for alternative families: I handle child custody, visitation, guardianship and other family law issues for same-sex couples.
  
  
• Criminal defense: I represent clients who are facing Alabama criminal charges ranging from traffic violations and DUI/DWI to more serious charges such as theft and property offenses, white collar crimes, drug offenses, and violent crimes such as domestic violence and murder.
