Homicide is generally defined as the death of a person caused by another. Homicide encompasses all human death caused by another person. Homicide can be lawful, because it is excused or justified, or unlawful. Examples of lawful, or justifiable, homicide include either homicides done in defense of self or others, or homicides that were the result of accidents.
Unlawful, or Criminal , homicide is divided into two categories; murder and manslaughter.
